This website is based around my private collection of old photographs and vintage picture postcards of the city of Frankfurt an der Oder, Brandenburg, Germany. The historic postcard images date from between 1898 and the end of World War II, when following the redrawing of borders between Poland and Germany in 1945, Frankfurt, was divided in two and became a border town. The city on the western bank of the river Oder (Odra in Polish) remained as Frankfurt, Germany; while the eastern part of the city, on the other side of the river, became Słubice, Poland. The German population of the eastern part of Frankfurt was expelled to the other side of the river and their place taken by Poles moving into the area from all over Poland. Click on the arrows to see the next postcard in our Frankfurt Oder collection. New scans of historic pictures of Frankfurt are added on a regular basis. Do contact me if you have a question on the city of Frankfurt or share my interest in the history of Brandenburg, on both sides of the river Oder. The site also includes a section with up-to-date contemporary photographs taken on my wanders around the splendid city of Frankfurt. See also old postcards of the nearby towns of: Landsberg Warthe and Schwerin Warthe
